SonyEricsson T226 intuitive UI
March 9 2004
I spent a whole bunch of time this morning
looking for the menu command to enable T9 input when writing an SMS.
Well no wonder it took me so long....
Gee, that was obvious. Not.
What's T9, you ask? The greatest timesaver for SMSing. T9 predicts, with reasonable accuracy, what word you are trying to enter on the little 12-key phone keypad, rather than having to punch it out one letter at a time. See the T9 FAQ for details.
Other first impressions of the T226:
- The 850 MHz band does have some useful coverage. The T226 works fine at my desk in my basement home office -- picks up a "Cingular" network that I've never seen before, and presume to be the new 850 MHz service.
- The screen smudges very very easily. Pretty much every contact with the phone requires a wipe-off.
- The phone exhibits signs of being cheaply made. For example, the backlighting leaks on both the left and right side of the phone, as well as an odd little triangle of light to the upper right of the display.

I never used to use T9 with my T68i as when I wanted to send an SMS I was able to use my Thinkpad to connect to the phone and send it via Bluetooth.

If the triangle is solid black then on my old Ericsson it meant that the phone was in Roaming mode. Not sure if that is still the case.

in other words, a leak above the rectangle of the display. Looks cheap for sure.

I have a trick for you on the screen I will show you while you are here
