Carl Tyler just reminded me that today is Patriot's Day.  This Massachusetts state holiday commemorates the Revolutionary War battles at Lexington and Concord, now commemorated by strange plaques with the words "Route 2" along the way between them.
Back when Lotus was an independent organization, Patriot's Day was an official company holiday.  For the years I lived in Boston, it was a day to look forward to -- the Boston Marathon and a Red Sox game, both just down the street from my apartment.  And it was certainly better than going into work -- with all that happens in Boston on Patriot's Day, driving into Lotus Cambridge would have been a real challenge.
Here we are a few years later, and Patriot's Day is an optional "floating" holiday for IBM Massachusetts sites.  More to the point, with everyone working as virtually and as geographically distributed as we do these days, a state holiday no longer has the impact on the business that it used to.    Lots of people online, and the e-mail volume doesn't appear to have slowed at all.  The times they are a changin'.
