EasySync Pro?

October 18 2012

Do you still use EasySync Pro?

IBM® Lotus® EasySync® Pro is a personal productivity solution that provides data synchronization between your IBM Lotus Notes® desktop and handheld devices running PalmOS and Windows CE/Pocket PC operating systems.
We are thinking about its future and trying to determine where/if it is still in active use today. Anyone? Email, tweet, or comment here with thoughts. Thanks.

    Is this a joke?

I see this on renewals all the time. First thing to go, then the dodgy Quickr renewal "split" that happened a while back.

I am always surprised when people tell me they tether their phone to the PC, but obviously there are still some of them out there.

Wow, they were the good old days!

I wouldn't normally expect an audience for this, but we hear of customers that do this when their enterprise does not offer a sync solution.

If your plan is to update for new devices, then I see opportunities. Haven't seen a Palm in a long time although they really got aspects of task management that few others understood.

I saw a new question about it posted a few weeks/months ago, probably either on DeveloperWorks or one of the StackExchange sites. Other than that, I had no idea anyone was still using trying to use it. I can't even remember when I stopped.

Sometimes, having a few random customers left still isn't a good enough reason to keep it around.

@6 I believe in that. I'm just trying to make sure I don't have a blind spot.

In the early days I used it to merge differet vendors calendas systems. But what is a date entry?

Right now I could use it to connect my Limia 900 with Lotus Notes as a workaround... ;-)

No. I have not used EasySync Pro since Traveler was released. It was a great product for Lotus Organizer but no longer required.

Kill it!! Kill it now!! Seriously - you already have a solution is place to replace it (Lotus Traveler) and keeping it around just makes you look old and outdated. Really. Kill it.

I think is more interesting to provide continuity for DAMO (Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook) in Exchange 2010 and Windows7 for Lotus Notes 8.5.x. It is a compelling argument for migrating accounts from Microsoft environments.

I still love my Palm T|X, but honestly, its functionality has been replaced by Android devices. For those I now use AWESynch for synchronization of Lotus Notes email, calendar, contacts and tasks with Google. For applications we went way low-tech, simply pushing data files to the device; and we've found we can do that either with a micro-USB cable or by simply posting the files to Dropbox. I know that there will be a lot of folks with higher security needs than I have, but I think it's safe to say that interconnectivity has gotten a LOT easier unless you forego that out of choice.

I think the last time I used EasySync was with a Palm device. That means... it was a long, long, LONG time ago.

Solid product, though. Reliable and easy to setup/use.

oh ... please kill it ... (and also NetBios and COM1 in Lotus Notes if you do so). Those stuff force us admins to keep old crap up and running for to long. You need to find workarounds for such systems to get them working with the modern world and because of the reason that you can find workaround nobody really cared about YOUR work.

Yes, there is absolutely no reason to continue support. As Darren says, seeing this on a renewal is a sure sign that the customer isn't really keeping track of S&S. We always try to use this as a way to start a Traveler discussion, and having an official EOS date would just make that conversation easier.

Maybe the people answering here isn't really the people you need answer from. That is "the always connected" people.

    Just saying!

I decided to look at the EOL for Windows CE and almost fell out of my chair. These devices will not be in people's pockets for 15 years.

Regardless, looking at business drivers, mobile devices at most survive for 3-5 years, so your reaching a point of transition now for the oldest WinMo6.5 devices and unless you plan on adding support die hard WebOS users, your good to go.

Feel free to EOL it.. Traveller is the way to go, works well and being largely adopted...

Still have a single customer using it.

    Does he want to? No!

Does he need it? Yes!... at least as long as IBM does not provide him with a Traveler Server for IBM i.

Could he use Traveler on Linux or Windows? Yes... but it would make his backup routine less easy. He - amongst many - still needs to see a commitment from IBM for the collaboration products (Domino, Traveler, Connections etc.) on the IBM i platform.

  1. 20  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@19 Traveler on i is on the radar.

We are still using it. At least for now we have a policy in place that we are not allowed to connect the internal network with an outside network with out implementing a filter that blocks malicious content from getting in and also blocks confidential content from getting out. For now I have not found any way to filter the content between Domino server and handheld device in an Traveler environment.

A Palm has no GPRS or UMTS connectivity. Therefor we don't need to filter the synchronized content.

EasySyncPro? How about support for Windows Phone. That's got to be a better use of time.

We havn't used it for 4 years
