Does your organization have a mobile strategy in place? Have you chosen a mobile application platform? These are the key questions facing organizations on their journey to become a mobile enterprise.

We believe that 2013 has been the year where enterprise customers recognized the imperative to leverage a mobile platform for building and deploying apps - both business-to-business/consumer and business-to-employee. As organizations go from having one customer-facing app or mobile-enabled website, to delivering a range of capabilities to employees, clients, and supply chain partners, increased velocity is necessary to build/deploy/manage those applications.

When we launched IBM MobileFirst earlier this year, we described the IBM MobileFirst application development lifecycle -

as illustrative of the organizational requirements to successfully develop and deploy mobile solutions. A mobile application platform helps organizations manage the entire lifecycle with much better return on investment than using native tools - a Forrester study says the ROI is over 350%.

Today, IBM is pleased to announce recognition from industry analyst Gartner that not only is a mobile application platform a critical component of technology, but that IBM's MobileFirst platform is a leader amongst the "MEAP" (mobile enterprise application platform) solutions available in the market today. Gartner specifically highlighted the application lifecycle components - IBM's integration of tools such as Worklight itself as the platform, Tealeaf CX Mobile for user experience optimization, Rational Test Workbench for test automation, Cast Iron for data integration, and Endpoint Manager for mobile device management. Gartner also recognized the ease of building and deploying native apps, HTML5-based mobile apps, or hybrid mobile apps. Further they recognized IBM's focus on standards, such as Worklight's support for Apache Cordova and Phonegap 3.0, its Eclipse-based foundation, and support for tools like Dojo, node.js, and other industry standards.

Our ranking as a leader by Gartner is recognition of the success customers are having with the IBM MobileFirst platform. For example, German manufacturer Rohde & Schwartz says they cut mobile development costs by 60% after adopting IBM Worklight.

The value for IBM MobileFirst platform just keeps improving. We recently released IBM Worklight 6.0, which incorporates new features for app testing, location services, and application deployment. Looking to get started? Worklight developer edition is available at no charge, and can be trialed on the IBM SmartCloud at no charge as well. Today is the day to answer the call - the mobile platform imperative will help you build and deploy faster, better mobile app solutions.
