Quickr 8.1 channel announcement, including Quickr Entry
March 18 2008
The news is out about Quickr 8.1 -- planned availability (eGA) on 28 March in English...
IBM Lotus Quickr 8.1 is team software that helps you access and share information and project materials that you need to get the job done, and to make better, more informed decisions. Lotus Quickr Standard provides many new features to enhance the user experience and simplify administration, including:One thing not clear from the channel announcement is the structure of any entitlement to Lotus Quickr Entry for Lotus Notes users. It's not in the Quickr 8.1 license, either. I'll look into this during LCTY today...
* Streamlined browser interface leveraging Web 2.0 technology
* New Lotus Quickr connector for Lotus Notes 8.0.1 using the side-shelf capability
* New Lotus Quickr connector for Lotus Symphony
* New Lotus Quickr connector for Microsoft Outlook
* Personal file sharing (also available separately as Lotus Quickr Entry)
* Enhanced administrative tools and user interface
* Integration with Lotus Connections profiles

@1 I would assume so, Charles. Completely agree on the need for a comparison matrix too.
8.1 seems to have been a long time coming since the details were made public back at the Collaboration Summit in September. I am so pleased that we are finally only days away from availability. The final piece of the Domino 8 jigsaw is finally set to be put in place...

When will Quickr 8.1 in German be available?

@1 From reading the announcement it looks like it.
That would be the product missing from the 'we shipped everything we promised' statement and leaves me with one less question to ask Ed at LCTY.

@Charles - yes Entry is the name of the version of Quickr that is for individual file sharing sites (a placetype really, and a combination of system settings). If you're only entitled to Entry, you get a server that just deploys that placetype, if you have Quickr standard, you get another placetype. There's more to it - a UI, navigation to others' sites via their email address, etc.

Any change in the Domino version required? The Software Requirements section of the Quickr page hasn't been updated with 8.1 yet.

@7 I have been told by one of the product managers that Quickr8.1 is supported only on Domino8.0.1. That may have changed since the beta though?
The client support in the announcement seems a little odd, with Windows and Redhat Linux mentioned, but no SUSE. Seems a little strange...

I saw that Lotus Quickr Entry will be available at no charge on the quickr powerpoint that was posted in the lotus greenhouse from the webcast that was done on 3/14/2008. It was on slide 32

According to the product page at
{ Link }
"Lotus Quickr Entry is available to currently licensed Lotus Notes and Domino Web Access users at no charge."
The "no charge" sounds so good!

Thanks for posting, Glen -- I will be sure to get a new blog entry up about that in a day or so.

Did anybody already find it on passport?
- 16
Brad Hair | 3/31/2008 8:06:18 AM
@Peter As of 9 AM on Monday March 31, 2008, I do not find it on Passport, either.
@Ed Am supposed to beging building my pilot servers this week. Are we significantly delayed, or should it be posted within a day or so? I certainly would prefer to build everything from scratch at the latest version, and not have to upgrade it later.

Any news on when ""Lotus Quickr Entry" will be available for download to "currently licensed Lotus Notes and Domino Web Access users"?

Chris Gleeson | 4/2/2008 9:04:03 AM
Unfortunately I noticed that we did not have Quickr 8.1 showing up on our Passport Advantage site. (Although Quickr 8.0 has been there for many many months).
Called the PA help line for US and was told that we don't have entitlement to the 8.1 upgrade. Our current licenses (Enhanced Collaboration Licenses and Enhanced Communication Licenses) are apparently good enough for us to get 8.0 but not 8.1.
That sounds so wrong, needless to say am awaiting a call back from my sales rep to get to the bottom of this. Otherwise we might as well drop a lot of licensing and replace with different functionality.

Is there any news when Quickr 8.0.1 will be available for download?
- 20
Ed Brill www.edbrill.com | 4/3/2008 5:12:51 PM
Been out for about six days.
- 21
Jan Schulz | 4/6/2008 8:51:03 PM
If I read that right, we should see Quickr Entry on our PA site, but currently it's not there :-( Anyway: can you use { Link } with Entry? Currently it is not clear to me, what is the difference between entry and standard (see @1)...
- 22
Peter Meuser | 4/8/2008 12:58:12 PM
Quickr Entry seems not really have a quick entry in the near future...
- 23
Peter Van de graaf | 4/9/2008 10:23:20 PM
All Notes & DWA customers will have Lotus Quickr Entry e-assembly loaded into their passport advantage page in about a week. This will enable them to download & install the code at that point. We aplogize for the delay.

Peter Meuser | 4/10/2008 1:54:42 PM
Thank you Peter for the first clarifying statement.

@18 - Chris
Were you able to obtain Quickr 8.1 with your CEO Bundle?
We are in the same situation, I do not see Quickr 8.1 and we have the CEO Bundle Business Collaboration and also Lotus Communication. Quickr 8.0 is available...
- 26
Peter Meuser | 4/21/2008 5:31:22 AM
@23 Seems to be more in about than in a week ... ;-)
- 27
Peter Meuser | 4/23/2008 11:57:50 PM
It's real, it's there (on passport)!
@Ed: Maybe it's time for another announcement...

Is Lotus Quickr Entry the new name for Quickr Personal? { Link } . As an aside, it would be really, really nice if IBM could finally join the rest of the software world and offer a comparison matrix for different editions of the same product. Trying to pick through announcements and licenses to figure out the differences is difficult and error prone. :-)
