As first reported on the Quickr Blog and the Connections Blog, both products are now available for download.

There's also a great writeup about Quickr out today on CMSWire: IBM Drops an 'e', Goes Web 2.0 with Lotus Quickr (Thanks, Ed).  An extensive view of the new release:

In a timely move, the largest incumbent software vendor this side of Redmond, WA is bringing a new team collaboration suite to market under the well-known Lotus brand. With the introduction of IBM Lotus Quickr, Big Blue hopes that customers will come running for their first commercially available wiki and stay for the shared content library, team workspaces, blogs and business templates.
Congratulations to both product teams.... I guess this means we're up next with ND8!  (And before you ask, I am hoping to blog an update on ND8 availability later today or tomorrow)

I've been watching the Partnerworld download site all day

:-) Got my Domino version, installed and all looks great. One question though... I thought the templates developed by Snapps were going to be included in the install, but the only place types I can create are Standard, Blog and Wiki. Checked the install folder and thats all there is in the \Areatypes folder... me confused.

@1 - self reply, ok - just checked around, they'll be out soon... to keen. Will they be part of the physical media though, or will customers have to download them?

Any word on a release date for Quick Personal Edition?

  1. 4  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@3 Quickr PE is planned for 8.0.1... so likely early '08.

  1. 5  Stuart McIntyre http://quickrblog.com |

@2 The additional dozen templates will be available from IBM's site (probably linked to from the Quickr product pages) and also from SNAPPS' site (probably via { Link } ). As Rob Novak has suggested { Link } they will be soak testing the new templates against the Gold code over the next few days and will be making the templates available as soon as they are comfortable that they are stable.

So I'm afraid you'll have to contain your excitement by trying out the built-in templates for now ;-)

No mention of Macintosh for either of them. What's the word on that?

    Cheers,

I have seen the activities for domino nowhere. What is the status on that?

    cti

  1. 8  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@7 Activities is part of Lotus Connections -- there is a license available if you want only the activities component of Connections. I am not sure what "Activities for Domino" refers to.

    @6 I'll ask.

What's the deal for Portal Extend customers? IBM has been strangely silent on this.

  1. 10  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

"the deal" on what? I don't cover Portal as a product, but I can try to find out on a specific question.

  1. 11  Jeff Snyder  |

As you know, Portal Extend customers are entitled to use QuickPlace. However, I have been unable to get a definitive answer from anyone at IBM confirming that the entitlement will apply to Quickr as well.

Since Quickr is the next version of QuickPlace it would seem that that is the only logical option, still, have not gotten any confirmation verbally or in writing.

  1. 12  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

    Got it. I will ask.

  1. 13  Rob Novak http://www.LotusRockStar.com |

    @Peter, Stuart is right.

  1. 14  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

@11 - The product team tells me: "WebSphere Portal Extend customers will be receiving limited entitlement to Lotus Quickr 8.0 as a part of the release of WebSphere Portal Extend 6.02, which is currently planned for the 3rd quarter of 2007." Details on that will be forthcoming.

  1. 15  Stuart McIntyre http://quickrblog.com |

@14 - That is terrific news. We have a number of Portal Extend customers (particularly on i5/OS) that will really benefit from that entitlement.

    Where's the Linux server?

  1. 17  Samuel deHuszar Allen  |

    ...for Domino that is...

  1. 18  Jeff Snyder  |

@14 - Thanks Ed, that's good news. Thanks for following up.

Okay, now we have the buzz but you cannot buy it at shop IBM, Quickplace has been sold out for months (store IBM in my country only has the Extranet Quickplace license) and there is no demo download and little information about localized versions.

A good argument for becoming an IBM Business Partner and getting Partnerworld Access.

Sorry to bump, but isn't there supposed to be a Quickr server for Domino on Linux?

  1. 21  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

Sam it's not my product so I'm not sure what was announced where, but according to this page, the Linux version runs atop WebSphere Portal only:

Was playing around with the installer, and get a dialog box:

"There is no such directory. Lotus Quickr must be installed in a folder that contains Domino 8.0. Select a destination folder that contains Domino 8.0."

    I'd love to...
