They even added a real power button and everything
November 23 2005
Hey look what's here!
Just back from meeting Bob from Apple at the nearby Apple Store (thanks
again, Bob!). And standing in the store, there was just no
question of which model was calling out to me...er, my daughter. 20
inches it is.
First surprise -- there's a real power button. I remember for years
how Macs had some goofy keyboard sequence to turn them on. How much
more sensible it is now.
More later. :)

Looks cool Ed, just don't hog your daughters PC...:)) All that remains is to install Open Office and the Workplace client. Too bad it Apple does not use the Cell or Power5 chip....
Happy Thanksgiving

Ed,
I hate to break it to ya, but that monitor appears to have the mother of all screen-burn artifacts smack in the middle of it.
It's even shaped like an Apple logo. Wierd, huh?

Bruce - it has to be done!
Ed - welcome to our world... I so hope that in the coming months your experience of the iMac will give you some insight into the merits of refining and developing the IBM offerings for Mac OS X. We've done to death the arguments about Mac Notes, so I won't go into that here. However, we still don't have the Workplace Rich Client for OS X, there's no Websphere Studio offerings, browser support for Safari and Firefox on Mac is poor etc. etc.
As you have clearly intimated in your blog, the Mac is on the up, the Intel switch should only accelerate this, and we need to see more focus from IBM on Mac platform support. Surely anything that reduces M$ annuity income from Windows must aid IBM in the ongoing collaboration battle?

Weh-hay! Welcome to the mac world. At least now you'll have a stable platform for itunes.
I really hope you put Notes on it and see that we are not all moaning murtles. You'll probaly be the first IBM'er to have Notes running on a MAC. But be warned you'll have IBM support calling to check out support issues, as no one there appears to have access to MAC clients!.

I debated the wireless keyboard / mouse. Thing is, with a 3.5 year old, I thought the idea of keeping these things physically attached to the base computer was actually a pretty good idea.

My 3.5 year old seems to leave them where they belong. It is my wife I have to watch! She hid the mouse the other day, to stop me from playing with it!! ;-)

Congrats! We need as many Mac users inside IBM/Lotus as possible! Is it intentional that you didn't wait for an Intel-based machine? :)
However, forgive me for pointing out that the "goofy keyboard sequence" was simply a single press of the power button, which happened to be conveniently located on the keyboard.

You have to promise to let Megan play with it once in a while. ;-)
