OK, this is just a teaser of things my team and I are working on around licensing and packaging of Notes/Domino products for implementation around the time of the new Notes/Domino Social Edition (8.5.4) release:

  • Revised terms for IBM XWork Server. We are trying to simplify the restriction around number of applications/databases, and create a scalable approach to deploying XWork Server as a solution component
  • Address and clarify how to license and support Domino Designer in the context of a Domino Collaboration Express or Domino Utility Express environment
  • Update the entitlement to IBM Connections files and profiles capabilities to the next version of Connections, and make the entitlement easier to utilize
  • Update the entitlement to Tivoli Directory Integrator
  • Update the entitlement to IBM Mobile Connect (in the Domino Enterprise Client Access and CEO Communications licenses)
  • Clarify the entitlement to WebSphere Application Server, specifically pieces like the Network Deployment Edge Component (an effective reverse proxy tool with Lotus iNotes)
  • Continue to refine and clarify our license agreements -- this has been another extensive effort for the new release

Don't ask me yet for details ;-) I'll be talking about these more in the next few weeks/months as we move closer to release. Of course as usual IBM's plans are subject to change, this is not a commitment, etc. Just a teaser :-)

For customers that have Domino on virtualized environments, I really hope that you either fixing ILMT or remove that requirement. I suspect that the only customers that have this working reliably are the ones that don't harden their operating systems.

    agree *with brian

I too absolutely agree with Bryan...

    One thing I really don't understand is;

Why don't IBM make ILMT available as an virtual appliance for the relevant platforms?

Since ILMT is free for the targeted customers AND it is available for Linux (free) it should be possible to create a "package" with a simple java(?) front-end to input the relevant info (hostname, IP-address, etc.)

It shouldn't be so hard to be compliant... :-/

Can you look at the various Sametime entitlements?

Sametime Limited Use grants access to Sametime Community Server and Sametime Proxy Server but the Passport Advantage entitlement doesn't include the Sametime System Console. Would be useful to have this be able to manage Sametime more easily.

And as us Domino Admins get to grips with Connections WAS is becoming less scary ;)

I ask you for ND Social Edition screenshots :)

I'm more interested in hearing about the Notes Browser Plugin than any of this stuff, but realize there are lots of Notes implementation out there.

Ed, when can we get a video demo of the browser plugin? I know management here would eat this up.

@5 I posted one a few months ago, have been waiting on some updated work going into the next build to do more.

@6 i have a video which we haven't yet posted publicly, but....

it's just Notes, running in a browser. So, I am not sure if the video will really wow your management. If so, I can go back and think about whether we can take the video we show customers in individual meetings and make it public.

@7 Ed, either I'm overestimating the impact of the Notes Browser plugin or you're underestimating it. Either way a little demo video couldn't hurt.

I have to agree with 1,2,3. If required, it should at least be accurate.

Aww, c'mon guys, give me a problem I can solve :-) ! ITLM not built in my organization, it is a tool used throughout IBM Software. Will see if I can get some attention to these feedback points.

Also intrigued by "Make the entitlement easier to utilize" with regard to Connections. IBM-funded partner-provided installs? Transfer entitlement to SmartCloud? Either of these would speed adoption...

@11, A shrink wrapped VM would do the trick

Thank You for sharing and your info..

I found your postings quite interesting and helpful, especially as we get to using more Notes on Macs and with the latest Mac release!

I look forward to 8.5.3 being Mtn Lion friendly;-)

@3 - Yes, it should not be so hard to be compliant. When my staff calls support, the response is "well, the people that have paid to have ILMT installed" have it working correctly. #fail

Ed, I caught your point that ILMT is not in your responsibility. Licensing is and that is why ILMT was developed.

Great to see the WAS edge components being added!

@14 I just said it was hard for me to address, not that I can't. It is a big company challenge and one we inflict upon you as customers.. I will see if I can help.

I also need to find out more about a project I heard about in March to move to a different technology instead of ITLM. I probably am not supposed to even be saying that publicly, but I do want to acknowledge the root concern.

    Hi,

In case of Connections Profiles, the plugin should be extended (or create a new plugin) to display the selected user profile (mail sender), report chain and network. My customers said that would be more useful than blogging.

I case of Files, if you use Files instead of attachment, the apropriate files should apear in the plugin.

    Bests, Z

ps: What about integration with IBM Docs? Will there be any entitlemets?

  1. 18  Lars Berntrop-Bos  |

Huh, you should see the mess ILMT makes on our iSeries. Working with IBM to enable it without it hammering the processor, and causing the admin to kill the ILMT processes.

  1. 19  Lars Berntrop-Bos  |

now I forget if it is ITLM or ILMT. Please Ed, raising awareness thaty it needs fixing will be well appreciated by many of it's users.

    Hi Ed,

    I just noticed on fixlist that 8.5.4 is pushed to february: { Link }

Does this mean that Traveler with WP support is pushed to february as well?

  1. 21  Ed Brill http://www.edbrill.com |

    yes.

  1. 22  Bram http://www.philips.com |

    Hi Ed,

What version of WAS Edge components are we talking here ?

I have looked into our entitlements and 8.5 is not mentioned there (yet).
